The Grammy’s are a great source of anticipation, one that celebs, stylist and artists alike take mounds of preparation and seek to inspire us with their new forward thinking creations. This years Grammy’s were, um lets day, uninspiring. Amidst the sea of expected and been-done’s, the only thing I found inspiring were the fashions, and that to say the least, was not the most impressive. Pardon me as I must be comparing it to last years Grammy’s with the more memorable of displays; i.e Pink’s wet trapeze act, Lady Gaga and Elton John’s collabo, and the great tribute to MJ – any way I digress…

This year, although I lovvve love love Lady Gaga – she has underwhelmed me. Yes she came out in a Hussein Chalayan egg (one of my favorite designers – a visionary who famed “the Remote control dress” among other architectural wonders of fashion), the egg I must say was over the top but I don’t know, it just didn’t give me goosebumps. Her performance “Born this Way” to me sounds just like Madonna’s “Express Yourself” and the yolk Mugler by Nicola Formichetti I have seen been done in numerous ways in the past. Gaga’s acceptance speech garb was a regurgitated version of everything we’ve seen her in the last two years. Please, Evolve! We love you and only want you to continue wowing us with your fashion du jour. What I did love, however was her audience attire again a Mugler by Formichetti, yet this time she looked like a futuristic Parisian fashion plate, just perched in the right way as if to emit “Oh don’t look at me, I’m so terribly fabulous, well actually ok! One photo!” The hat, the half blazer and alien face and shoulder prosthetics were a wonderful touch to what I would like to see Gaga moving towards.

The lovely Katy Perry worked with Armani Prive – who did it better in the 2010 Grammy’s with Lady Gaga’s galaxy dress, green swarvoskky crystal encrusted body suit for which she performed with Elton John, and her audience wardrobe, lets call it crystal formation hat – this year Armani did not hit the proverbial nail on the crystal encrusted head. See below how the sketches look 10 times better than the actual creation, red carpet look, performance Valentines day look and audience look.

Rihanna had some misses, and one hit – The sheer tulle Jean-Paul Gaultier gown, what was she thinking? The runway image offers a cream more complete look with gloves and matching black veil, yet still not a fashion hit in my book. During her performance, all of Rihanna’s grandeur was replenished with this fiery Christian Dior Haute Couture Fall 2010 ball gown, and it was stunning. Lastly it seems as though our songbird is having an identity crisis. Going from froufrou to glamour to Native American reservation in a fringed and beaded red cover up is kind of strange and offers no consistency what so ever. Of course you want to change it up with your three big Grammy looks, but really?

And now for best and worst dressed!

Best:

Jennifer Lopez in a glitzy Pucci Mini and Louboutins, a tried and true flattering silhouette for her and the mirrored effect looks fresh and young.

Kim Kardashian in a bronze Kaufman Franco gown drips sex appeal in this vintage-y goddess like number.

Jennifer Hudson looking slim and sultry in this navy Versace corseted dress. The right amount of dominatrix, sparkle and movement from the sheer “mullet” skirt looks fresh and powerful.

Worst:

Rihanna in the sheer tulle Jean-Paul Gaultier couture white striped dress. Do I have to say anything?

Nichole Kidman in a washed out floral print by Jean Paul Gaultier. the colors on this fair skinned beauty is just really old looking.

Nicki Minaj – not so fierce in this bold feline print by Givenchy. If I saw this animal in the wild, I would run.

Miley Cyrus looks beautiful in this glistening animal print and sequin Roberto Cavalli gown but she lands on my worst dressed picks because it looks like the dress is two sizes too big and the sequins look heavy as if they are anchoring down her chest. The hair looks great but it does not work with this dress as it covers the detailing at the bust and looks too fussy.
